Key Georgia Test Information

We have pulled out some important highlights of information related to the Georgia state tests. But this list is not exhaustive. Please review the driver’s handbook for details on Georgia state laws and for how to prepare for your written and practical driving tests.

Identification requirements

Applicants must present acceptable documents establishing your identity/birthdate, residency, and provide your Social Security Number (SSN), if eligible. Documents must be original or certified copies. Applicants must not provide photocopies or self-laminated documents.

Age Requirements

Upon reaching age 15, or anytime thereafter, you may apply for a Class C Instructional Permit (CP).

Upon reaching the age of 16, and after having held a valid instructional permit for one year and one day, you may apply for your Class D license.

A Class D license holder may not drive between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.

Knowledge Test

The test contains questions on traffic laws, road signs and rules of safe driving. All questions are based on the materials found in a driver’s handbook.

Georgia‘s knowledge test consists of 2 different tests: the road test and the signs test. Both of these consist of 20 questions, of which 15 must be answered correctly to achieve a passing grade.

Vision Requirements

Any applicants requiring corrective lenses must wear them whilst taking the test. If the applicant fails the vision examination and it is determined that lenses are needed then the applicant will be required to wear them whilst driving.
